James Whynot, MD
Medical Director

A Board Certified Internal Medicine physician, Dr. Whynot specializes in Bariatrics and Medical Informatics. With degrees from Boston College, University of Massachusetts Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nuclear Medicine, Dr. Whynot has developed an in-depth understanding of health and weight loss. He has practiced medicine in Hawaii and Boston for more than 25 years.

As the Medical Director of Island Health Weight & Wellness, Dr. Whynot believes in instituting weight loss programs that treat the physical, psychological, and emotional factors that lead to obesity. By treating obesity in a medical model with a comprehensive approach and in an educational one-on-one setting, Dr. Whynot believes patients are more likely to find long term success. His top priorities are patient satisfaction and quality improvement.

Bruce Wing, PA-C
Physician Assistant

Originally from Maine, Bruce Wing, PA-C and his family live in Kailua. Bruce has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Metropolitan State College of Denver and graduated from Red Rocks Community College with a degree in Physician Assistant Studies in 2007. He previously worked at Queens Medical Center as a Physician Assistant in the trauma surgery service and at Pali Momi Medical Center in Aiea. Bruce’s depth of medical knowledge and background working closely with patients with chronic illnesses makes him a strong asset to the Island Health team and an excellent provider of medical weight management therapy.

Bruce’s main areas of professional interest include endocrinology, cardiology, and obesity / weight management. His professional goals are to provide quality care for patients in long term patient/provider relationships and make an impact on his patients’ lives.

Ed Coltharp, PA-C
Physician Assistant

Ed is one of the senior providers at Island Health Weight & Wellness’s sister clinic Alaska Premier Health and a locum tenens Physician Assistant for IHWW. Originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Ed is a retired Army Captain with 20 years of active duty in the military. He served as an Army Physician Assistant and combat medic working in trauma and acute/urgent care. Ed served in Operation Desert Storm in 1990 and 1991 attached to the Marine Tiger Brigade in Kuwait. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 2002 and has been working in Bariatric medicine for over ten years.

Today, Ed enjoys practicing in a comprehensive family medical setting and engaging his patients with his depth of medical knowledge and ability to inspire patients to take control of their health care. An avid outdoor adventurist, Ed’s favorite things to do are hunting and fishing, going on float trips and biking. He also highly recommends yoga.

Lindy, Manager

Lindy began working at our sister clinic Alaska Premier Health when it opened in 1993 as a back office assistant. Today she is the billing specialist and occasional manager of IHWW. Lindy received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Arizona State University in 2009. She enjoys hiking with her dogs and scuba diving.

Kinsey, Medical Assistant

Kinsey graduated from Med-Assist School of Hawaii and was valedictorian of her class in 2015. Before moving to Hawaii, she graduated with honors from Tacoma Community College obtaining her associates degree in Arts and Science. She also is a certified esthetician and has worked for medical spas nationwide. In the future, she plans to continue her education to become a RN or Surgical Technician.

Leann, Medical Assistant

Leann is originally from the island of Kauai. She graduated from Eastern Washington University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Pre-Medicine in 2015. While in Washington, she worked as a nursing assistant for a home healthcare agency and volunteered for physical therapy clinics. Her future plans are to attend medical school and eventually serve the people of Hawaii as a physician.
